Hike is FULL. Please use the subscribe form and calendar to the right to participate in other Thinkwalks!
This Thinkwalks event will be more than a vigorous, hilly 6-mile hike (rain or shine)! Please RSVP. We’ll also have a close look at five flowing surface creeks in a city where most people barely know of a single flowing creek. Come be a creek geek with Thinkwalks!
This Thinkwalks hike will include:
- 4 to 5 hour hike on trails, paths & stairways
- Fun, interesting creek geek hiking companions
- Lobos Creek, the biggest gush still flowing in SF
- Dragonfly Creek rehab zone (misnamed, but nice!)
- Unnamed springs & tiny creeks almost nobody alive has ever seen!

Did you know that the “ice plant” growing in the Presidio and all over SF is Sour Fig from South Africa, brought here as packing material on ships?
This walk will be a cliff- and hill-climbing six miles, with a scenic stop for snacking. Bring lunch and snacks to share. The hike will be a loop starting and ending at the Baker Beach parking lot. This walk is one of the Thinkwalks free hikes focused on creeks and springs from award-winning hike leader Joel Pomerantz’s research. Note, though, that we’ll pass the hat in case you want to donate after all you learned and were inspired by.
Unlike our usual Thinkwalks, this will be long, hikey and with only occasional historical presentations. If you’d prefer more of a short, flat, discussion-oriented walk, then come to another Thinkwalk or request one for your group on a date of your choosing.
Come enjoy this Thinkwalks exploration rain or shine. Please RSVP. Maximum 15 people. Feel free to call with questions. Be sure to dress properly, bring water and check last minute weather.
