The Sands of Market Street—EVENT FULL
Oct 16 @ 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Thinkwalks presents an exploration walk:

The Sands of  Market Street

Note: EVENT FULL. Please don’t show up unless I’ve confirmed your reservation via email at 5:15 p.m. on Oct 15. –Joel

Come join us for a natural history exploration of an area bursting with urban infrastructure. We’ll look at locations where bay has disappeared under fill, only to cause problems for modern buildings. We’ll re-imagine the old waterfront landscape of the first year in the Gold Rush (1849). We’ll even stand in places that were tall dunes, wide ponds and flood zones.

There will be casual, participatory discussion and a few map unrollings during brief presentations from your guide, water mapper Joel Pomerantz. Get to know how Market Street in the Financial District fits the bigger picture of San Francisco water history and social landscapes.

We’ll wander from Montgomery Street to Powell Street BART by a circuitous route.
