All payments for tours are donations based on what amount you decide to give after you’ve enjoyed a tour.
In addition, you’re encouraged to think of Thinkwalks when you wish to support local educational efforts in larger ways. Any donation you make will help support research and public presentations which directly create
Local ecological awareness
Fuller civic participation
A stronger car-free imperative
City officials, water consultants, nonprofit org advocates, and other educators have shifted their efforts as a result of Thinkwalks they’ve attended. By supporting Thinkwalks, you are supporting an informed democracy. For more on larger donations, see the FAQ page.
Pricing and Payment Policies
If you are on a tour individually, you can pay using our sliding scale pricing, where you determine what to pay.
You earn very little → $10
You’re finally living a stable routine → $15
Your income is stable → $20
Donating to progressive educational purposes feels great → $30
You’re proud to be good at making money → $40
Custom tours are priced depending on what you want.
The idea behind our sliding scale:
I don’t like turning people away for lack of funds.
As you’ll see on your tour, your support sustains our unusual programs connecting people with the urban and natural context. Thinkwalks tours are presented as community activism and education. They are provided regardless of your financial resources. And someday Thinkwalks will reach the goal of a living wage for the guide.
Ideally, we’d spend an hour or more in a group discussion about priorities in life, financial resources, generosity, and so on, the way Movement for a New Society used to determine pricing for their workshops, way back in the idealism age. But that approach takes a lot of patience—and patience doesn’t grow on trees (unlike impatiens, as you’ll see when you walk around SF).
We provide these Thinkwalks for reasons that have little to do with money, and of course you’ll appreciate the tours for more than their reasonable cost.
