The first decisions about where to create the outpost that became our city are mostly lost to pre-history. Recently some tantalizing clues have surfaced. A new understanding of Spanish journals has combined with better mapping of the landscape to create a picture of the natural setting. It was populated and stewarded by Indians for thousands of years before it convulsed through the 18th and 19th centuries into the city of today.
